The Benefits of Restorative Yoga


Restorative Yoga has the power to drastically improve the the quality of your life and subsequently, the lives of those around you. You can reap the benefits the moment you start practicing. Here are a few of the benefits you may experience as a result of your practice:

Props are an essential component of a restorative yoga practice. They serve the important roll of fully supporting your body so your muscles can completely relax, and the mind can settle into the Alpha brain waves of conscious relaxation. 


Essential Props


1 yoga mat 

1 bolster 

2 Mexican style blankets 

2 blocks


Nice-to-have Props (but not needed)


Extra blanket to cover yourself

Eye pillow or small towel to cover your eyes

Neck pillow

Medium bath towel to use as pillow for head support

Sand bags x2, anywhere from 4-10lbs. Average 7lbs. 



Make Your Own Props



  • Roughly 25” long x 6” high x 12” wide

  • 2 blankets rolled together -fold each blanket in half lengthwise. Lay one on top of the other. Roll them up starting at the narrow edge.

  • 2 bed pillows or couch cushions- stack pillows then wrap tightly in a thin blanket 

  • 2 yoga mats rolled tightly, wrap a strap around then roll in a blanket. 


Blankets x2:

  • Roughly 77” long x 50” wide (each)

  • Extra large beach or bath towels

  • Picnic blankets 

  • Couch throws 


Blocks x2:

  • Roughly 4” thick x 9” long x 6” wide

  • Large hard cover books

  • Large full canisters or cans

  • Anything sturdy in similar shape and size 



*Bring an extra layer of clothes to put on following the flow portion as the body temperature can drop a few degrees when we settle into the restorative postures. 

We sell bolsters and blocks in studio should you desire to buy them for your in-studio and home practice.
